It was a privilege to be asked by our friends at String & Tins to create an arrangement & orchestration of “It’s A Fine Life” from the musical Oliver! for this incredibly moving campaign for the MND Association.
The film follows the true life story of Jaki Jackson, a performer and singer from Brighton whose first symptoms, noticed at her wedding, led to a devastating MND diagnosis. The film honours Jaki’s own voice, as we were able to use an original archive recording from one of her performances as Nancy in Oliver!, separating her vocal out and creating a new orchestration to support her. Then in an emotional climax to the film, we hear both her big money-note from the show, as well as Jaki’s current voice-banked voice as her husband Steve cares for her. It was truly hard to keep the emotions at bay whilst working on this one, especially as theatre makers ourselves. Thanks to String & Tins for having us on board.
